Gucci's collection of bags and suitcases fall / winter 2018 is imbued with a sporty spirit and a decorative exuberance. It offers a wide variety of models in different sizes, from large totes to small shoulder bags and fanny packs, and incorporates a wide selection of materials. However, the common denominator is Gucci's eclectic and distinctive aesthetic, as well as the use of House motifs and various emblems adopted from new partners and historical sources. To illustrate, the most prominent decorative element is a striking tiger head detail inspired by a vintage Hattie Carnegie jewelry design: a roaring tiger head, glazed and adorned with crystals, which is used in numerous purse models, to the point of becoming a symbol of the collection. It highlights a small leather bag that is characterized by the head of the tiger accompanied by another distinctive ironwork: the detail of G intertwined with horsebits. However, it has been updated through an unconventional combination of metals: gold and silver. The tiger head also appears in a unstructured tote bag, available in two sizes and three suede colors (blue with red leather trim, brown with black and orange fur trim with green fur trim). The backpack with multiple pockets is a key design for this season. It is made of wrinkled nylon-style eighties-black, yellow or turquoise, with patches of multicolored curl, the logo of Gucci and G interlaced as a decoration. This design is also available in a light and shiny viscose moire with patches. The viscose models come in black and light pink, and the multicolored terry and cotton patches and appliques combine elements of the Gucci logo with other symbols of the House. There are references to the Major League Baseball, as well as to the sixty manga Viva! Volleyball, illustrated by the Japanese artist Chikae Ide. The images of this comic also update a range of Gucci cabases in white leather. The reference to Major League Baseball (MLB) is a recurring theme. Some teams such as the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels or the Detroit Tigers lend their logos to decorate various pieces of the collection. The logo of the New York Yankees is present in a tote, embroidered in white on a blue suede background, and also in a special edition of the Dionysus bag, on a GG pattern background embroidered with birds and flowers (in black cotton). The Los Angeles Angels and Detroit Tigers logos adorn black leather shoulder bags and round rucksacks with the details in yellow. All these pieces have a label sewn with the silhouette of the batter, the official logo of the MLB. Another example of the sports theme comes in the form of two spherical leather bags: one for bowling (small size) and another for basketball (large size). They are characterized by the typical seams of sports balls and are available in black or brown leather, with double top handle and zippers with double metal handle. They also feature an enameled oval with double G detail on top. In terms of more resistant luggage, Gucci presents a collaboration with Globe-Trotter, a British luxury brand that manufactures luggage and leather travel articles since 1897. The characteristic look of the Globe-Trotter suitcases (metal studs, belts of leather and skin reinforcements at the corners) translates to Gucci aesthetics. The GG pattern is used as the base design for the exterior of the suitcases (available in two colors: black or black / ebony) and the green-red-green web as well as a floral print are also used. The Globe-Trotter suitcases are famous for their robustness and lightness, a unique quality that is due to the use of vulcanized fiber boards, the special material that the company has been using since its inception for the manufacture of all its rigid luggage. Vulcanized fiber is a unique material composed of fourteen pressed layers of recycled paper, cotton and cellulose pulp from sustainable forests. It was invented in 1850 by the Englishman Thomas Taylor and patented by Globe-Trotter in 1901. The exact formula, which requires a special solution and its compression by a steamroller, is still one of the best kept secrets of the company. It offers a set of four-wheeled suitcases (in three sizes: cabin, medium and large), as well as a vintage-style briefcase (with adjustable / removable leather strap). As an additional piece, a beauty case with bamboo handle, front closure and adjustable / removable leather strap has been created, although it can also be used as an idiosyncratic bag. Speaking of idiosyncratic handbags, there is a new line of metallic shoulder bags inspired by the style of the eighties. One of them is a square bag for a camera, available in silver with the green-red-green web of the House. The washed metallic skin gives the piece an aged vintage look. The multicolored versions of the model in contrasting metallic tones also stand out. All camera bags feature the G detail interlaced with horsebits in gold and silver - the same that adorns the small leather shoulder bags - as well as an exclusive strap made from three strands of braided leather that can be adjusted from the inside. In the same line, we find a new dome-shaped mini bag that shares hardware and strap with the camera bag and is available in contrasting metallic tones. It also highlights a design with Flora de la Casa, made in a new viscose fabric. Both the camera bags and the dome type include inside a removable hook and a card holder. Finally, the party bag for this season is a versatile model, available in different materials and color combinations. Its distinctive feature is the square G adorned with crystals, a motif that has already been seen in women's shoes. This design, characterized by its exclusive gold and black cotton twist strap, is available in velvet (black, red, cobalt blue, pink and emerald green), in python (black, burgundy and teal) or with embroidery ( on a base of black, pink or green moire).
